Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I found the whole offset topic interesting. Our power company offers “offsets” and we do purchase enough to cover/offset our level of energy use; they use the contribution to power existing and/or upcoming renewable energy sources. But, looking into “carbon offsets” in general, I found I’m a bit behind…didn’t really know this whole offset thing was so generalized. I really like the idea of using “offsets” for other things. I’m all about reducing, but when you’re feeling stuck, it’s nice to have another option to continue the progress by contributing to enviromentally conscious companies. And, in this case, little things like, contributing the cost of an extra piece of luggage, seems like such an easy way to help… again, after we try to reduce the footprint; the cost to the environment for what we do.
I also found carbonfund.org when looking into the whole offset thing…same idea as terrapass.com. I liked their line, “Reduce what you can, offset what you can’t.” Of course, as usual, the “can’t” part can be a bit exaggerated by many…
