Hello, we recently moved to Kea’au, HI and while I am excited about the fact that we use a catchment tank for water, which really makes you conscious of how much water you use, I was disappointed to find it is recommended that we add chlorine bleach to the tank to kill off bacteria. Does anyone on the forum know if there is a more “green” was to get rid of bacteria in a catchment tank than using bleach? |

I’m no expert, but I did a google search and found a guide for maintaining catchment tanks according to the standards in HI. It’s called “Guidelines on Rainwater Catchment Systems for Hawaiiand it was written by University of Hawaii professor Patricia Macomber. I would start at this link and see what the State requirements are. http://www.ctahr.hawaii.edu/oc/freepubs/pdf/RM-12.pdf Hope this helps! |

Thanks Green Teacher. It suggests chlorine bleach as well, I was just hoping for a method with no bleach. |
