hey there jack fans, my problem: I don’t know jack (pun intended) about gardening/botany. Anyone have good suggestions as to what to plant? Low maintenance and small would probably be ideal, as I live in Boston where they will need to be inside due to the harsh climate. Excellent. Thanks in advance for any responses. |

Im from Fall River so we share the same climate. Last Summer I made a garden in my back yard with tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, squash and cucumbers. I just cleared a little spot, probably about 5ft by 12ft, bought seeds at the store for what i wanted, panted them, water them, and put stakes and fense around the spots they grow. Came out with alot of vegetables. You could probably do the same. Hope this helped. :) |

I’m in Delaware, so we have a little longer season. Last summer I tried the earthbox (http://www.earthbox.com) and I am looking forward to doing it again this year. I started a little too late last year, and I let the kids decide what to plant (mostly mint, which just goes wild). I have heard people rave about the results they get with tomatoes and herbs, and you can grow a lot in a small box. Also, the box is on wheels, so you could start it inside and put it out in the summer. It has a water reservoir incorporated in it, and a cover that keeps in moisture, so you can’t overwater and it’s pretty forgiving. |

Rosemary grows like a tiny pine tree, so they don’t need much space. Cherry tomatoes just need a small pot and support. The main factor would be the light requirement. This might be an interesting link: |

If all else fails you can always plant in buckets (recycled of course). I have yellow, purple end green bell peppers, banana peppers, basil, mint, tomatoes, and lemons and limes all planted in buckets or large pots. |
