Cafeteria Culture

Cafeteria Culture is a BIPOC, woman-led environmental education nonprofit based on the Lower East Side. Our mission is to transform school cafeterias into climate action hubs where our low-income and students of color living in public housing and shelters lead urgently needed environmental justice initiatives that drive institutional change and foster a lifetime of civic engagement. Through civic action, science, media, and art, Cafeteria Culture guides youth to address food waste, plastic pollution, and food insecurity.

Our vision is to foster a just, waste-free world where youth voices shape healthy, resilient communities and equitable climate solutions.
